April 17th : International Day of Farmers’ Struggles against transnationales and free trade

La Via Campesina declared April 17th as the International Day of Peasant Struggle to highlight the struggle and denounce the criminalization of protests. Peasant farmers are persecuted and suffer violence on a daily basis as a result of the implementation of neoliberal policies and the spread of agribusiness in the countryside. For the International Peasant Movement it is urgent to see the approval of a United Nations Declaration on the rights of peasants and all people living in rural areas. It is a tool to support the struggle for life and dignity in the countryside.
